Nov 25 2025, 07:56 In the Trial of the Sekhemas in Path of Exile 2, the Honor mechanic is a unique and punishing secondary life resource that causes many players to fail the trial. Honor represents a shared survival pool measured alongside your traditional health and energy shield. What is Honor? Honor acts as a secondary health bar derived from the sum of your character's Life and Energy Shield (and sometimes Mana if you have Mind Over Matter). It starts full when entering the trial and decreases as you take any form of damage from enemies, environmental hazards, or traps. Why Honor Drains Quickly Unlike Life or Energy Shield, Honor cannot be replenished through normal means such as flasks, regeneration, or leech. This means every hit you take directly reduces your Honor pool permanently during the trial, making damage taken far more punishing. Furthermore, damage to Honor depends on damage type and your resistances. Elemental or chaos damage you are less resistant to drains Honor disproportionately. The distance from enemies also affects Honor loss: ranged attacks tend to reduce Honor more than melee hits because hitting from afar exposes you to more Honor damage. Failure Condition The Trial has a strict one-life format: If your Honor hits zero at any point, you are immediately ejected from the trial, losing all progress. This creates a high-stakes environment where managing and avoiding damage is critical. Honor loss is often the top cause of failure, even more than regular life depletion, because it is relentless and not recoverable without specific rare resources or boons in the trial. Ways to Mitigate Honor Loss Increase your maximum Life and Energy Shield before entering the trial to raise your total Honor pool. Boost resistances, especially to chaos and elemental damage, to reduce Honor damage taken. Get Relics in the trial that increase Honor resistance or maximum Honor. You begin with only one Relic slot but gain more slots as you progress, allowing for more buffs. Stay close to enemies when possible to reduce Honor damage taken. Use special Sacred Water items and Djinn Boons sparingly to recover some Honor. Avoid reckless attacks and traps as even small hits rapidly reduce Honor. You fail the Trial of the Sekhemas primarily due to the unforgiving Honor mechanic—a secondary health resource that drains with every hit without conventional recovery. Mismanagement of Honor, lack of resistances, or taking excessive damage from ranged or elemental sources results in rapid depletion and trial failure. Mastery comes from damage avoidance, defensive scaling, and smart resource use to preserve your Honor throughout the grueling trial. |
