Mastering the Trials in Path of Exile 2, specifically using the Test of Will Barya (Djinn Barya) for the Trial of the Sekhemas, requires strategic preparation and in-run tactics to survive challenging floors, manage your resources, and maximize rewards.
Understand the Trial Structure The Trial of the Sekhemas consists of multiple floors filled with enemies, afflictions, and challenging boss fights, culminating in the final boss Zarokh, the Temporal. Your progress and reward depend on survival and how well you manage your "Honour" (a resource that takes damage when you take hits or suffer afflictions in the trial).
Increase Honour Resistance Honour Resistance reduces damage taken to your Honour pool, effectively multiplying your survivability inside the trial. Aim for around 75% Honour Resistance by equipping Relics that grant this stat. These Relics can drop randomly in lower difficulty trials or be obtained via trading. Honour Resistance is more impactful than simply increasing your total Honour or life pool.
Equip and Use Beneficial Relics When entering the trial using your Djinn Barya, you can add Relics on the Relic Altar. Some Relics increase Honour resistance, max life/energy shield, or provide useful boons. Choose Relics carefully to make the run easier and increase your chances of surviving to the next floor.
Avoid or Mitigate Afflictions Afflictions are negative statuses that can significantly hamper your movement, attack speed, or energy shield, or increase enemy aggressiveness. Avoid accumulating these as much as possible, as they increase the difficulty of the rooms and boss fights.
Prioritize Movement and Clear Speed Builds and playstyles optimized for fast clear speed and high survivability fare better. Use mobility skills like dodge rolls and movement abilities to avoid damage and quickly clear mobs. Backpedaling and kiting during waves is often safer, especially for surviving the Hourglass Trial where you must survive waves for a duration.
Choose Trial Rooms Strategically Different rooms in the Trial present different challenges (e.g., Escape Trial, Chalice Trial, Gauntlet Trial, Hourglass Trial). Use your positioning and available buffs to choose paths whose challenges you can handle best, avoiding the worst afflictions or the hardest mechanics.
Boss Fight Tips
Balbala the Traitor (start): Avoid her teleportation and gas clouds; patience and movement are key.
Twin Terracotta Sentinels: Kill both within 10 seconds of each other to prevent healing.
Final boss Zarokh: Learn his attack patterns and stay mobile; staggering phases let you maximize damage windows.
Use Unlocks to Progress Floors At the end of each floor, unlock the way forward by interacting with locked chests. Make sure to collect rewards and prepare for the next floor.
Consider Co-op Play (if available) Playing with a friend in co-op can make the Trial more manageable by dividing enemy aggro and increasing damage output.
Repeat Runs and Farm Djinn Barya If you fail, you can talk to Balbala to get a new Barya to retry the Trial. This allows continuous practice and farming for relics, ascendancy points, and unique rewards. Focus your farming on Desert Biome maps where Djinn Barya drop chance is increased with the Local Knowledge Atlas passive.
By carefully preparing your build for Honour resistance, choosing strong Relics, moving tactically during the trial, and learning boss mechanics, you make the most of your Test of Will Barya to complete the Trial of the Sekhemas and unlock powerful Ascendancy Points and gear rewards. Patience and strategic use of your Barya coins will maximize your progression through this challenging Ascendancy trial.
